Reed named interim Athletic Director at Tabor

Tabor College has announced that Shawn Reed, head women’s basketball coach, has added the role of interim athletic director, effective July 1.

In that role, Reed will oversee the day-to-day operations of the athletic department for the 2018-19 academic year.

“I am excited to serve Tabor and our excellent coaching staff, trainers and support staff in this role,” Reed said. “As a department, we want to continue to serve Tabor’s mission by creating an environment for student-athletes that supports learning, promotes excellence and stimulates Christian growth.”

Reed’s predecessor, Rusty Allen, has been promoted to executive vice-president for operations. Allen will continue working in athletics, but will also use his leadership skills in areas such as enrollment management, student life, facilities and the performing arts.

Allen said Reed was an obvious choice for the interim position.

“Shawn has a really broad base of Christian higher education,” Allen said. “Coupled with his understanding and great work in the athletic department, he has demonstrated a combination of excellence and heart for the integration of faith and competition, which has been our platform here at Tabor College.

“Athletics is a big part of the student experience here. My role will be more of a strategic direction and consultation for the athletic department instead of the day-to-day operations. I am really glad I can continue to be connected to the athletes, coaches and athletic support staff of Tabor.”

Reed said his main goal as interim athletic director is to keep the department moving in its current direction.

“Rusty Allen provided fantastic leadership and vision to our department during his tenure in this position and my job is to keep us on that same path,” Reed said.

Tabor College competes in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and the NAIA.
