Some school principals do the darndest things when it comes to helping students succeed, and for Justin Wasmuth at Marion Elementary School, becoming a feathered turkey on Nov. 24 paid off. Wasmuth said he and the Parent Advisory Council came up with the idea of ?Dollar Days? instead of having a carnival before the Thanksgiving holiday. ?For every dollar, or more,? he said, ?a student was given a small cup of corn syrup and a hand full of feathers to place on me.? Even though the one-hour activity was ?very messy,? Wasmuth said they raised about $250. It?s hard to know what Wasmuth and PAC will come up with next, but they are working on some different ideas for another event in a couple of months. ?The feathered turkey was a huge success,? he said, ?and the money will go toward purchasing items around the school and field trips in the spring.
