The Red Ribbon Week theme for 2012 is ?The Best Me is Drug Free.?
Burkholder said the balloon launch will signify that ?we, as the community of Marion, are uniting together and rising above illegal drug use and peer pressure.?
Participants are encouraged to wear red to show their commitment to stay drug free.
Marion Elementary School will celebrate Red Ribbon Week Oct. 23-30. Marion Middle School and Marion High School will celebrate Red Ribbon Week Oct. 29 to Nov. 2.
?All students will be participating in numerous activities during Red Ribbon Week that focus on making healthy and safe choices, not giving in to peer pressure, and the importance of living drug and alcohol free.?
Burkholder and K-9 through 12 counselor Mark Felvus will be leading these activities in their respective buildings.
