PBHS students attend BPA event

Seven students from the Pea?body-Burns High School chapter of Business Profes?sionals of America chapter attended the 2008 national leadership conference in Reno, Nev., May 7-11.

Ben Eldridge, Seth Methvin, Christiane Wendt, Sean Jones, Jacob Simmonds, Martin Hofkamp, and Embry Hodges joined more than 6000 other delegates to participate in national level skill competitions, listen to industry speakers, and elect next year?s national officers.

Methvin placed third in ?Prepared Speech.? In this event the student selects a business topic to prepare a five- to seven-minute speech. Methvin spoke on the agri-tourism industry.

Wendt placed sixth in ?Medical Office Procedures,? in which the student takes an objective test over medical terminology and then completes an application piece such as keyboarding and editing a medical record file.

Eldridge and Methvin, state officers, served as voting delegates for the state chapter. They participated in a campaign rally, listened to campaign speeches and voted in a caucus selection.

Jones competed in ?Entrepre?neurship,? Simmonds in ?Spread?sheet Analysis,? Hofkamp in ?Financial Math? and Hodges in ?Medical Office Procedures.?

The group was led by Jana Wedel, BPA sponsor, and Brian Simmonds.
