Adriana Newman and Lexi Schreiber received a silver medal in the Chapter in Review portfolio competition, which qualified them to participate at state in Wichita later this spring.

The two members wanted to lead activities for both the elementary students and also residents at the local nursing home. Once a month, the girls plan and conduct a physical activity with the elementary students and then have then help prepare and eat a healthy snack during After School Adventures.

One evening a month, the members go to the local nursing home and play bingo with the residents. Prizes include fresh fruit, puddings and gelatin.

“We learned early that we never bring enough bananas for prizes,” Newman said.

Added Schreiber, “Spending time with all ages of people has given us a better understanding of the actions of both the young and the young at heart.”
