PBES observes Walk to School Day

Peabody-Burns Elementary School joined schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day Oct. 5.

About 30 students and some adults met Sondra Mayfield and principal Ken Parry at the track at 7:25 a.m. and were served breakfast pizza and juice.

After breakfast, Mayfield gave a short presentation on International Walk to School Day as well as pedestrian safety. The group then began the walk to PBES.

Walk to School events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.
