Hillsboro Community Hospital has awarded a $500 scholarship to Hillsboro High School graduating senior Hayley Pankratz.
The scholarship program began in 1993 and is awarded each year to an HHS graduate who is pursuing a health related career.
The scholarship is based on an interest in rural health care, motivation, an essay, and the ability to meet the scholastic requirements of the intended course of study.
Pankratz plans to attend Mid-America Nazarene University where she will study nursing. She enjoys helping others, and has worked at a nursing home the past two years.
?I have had first-hand experience learning the importance of patience and the value of caring, compassionate actions towards others,? Pankratz stated in her application. ?Often the simplest tasks bring the most joy to (the residents) and this joy returns to me.?
Pankratz is a four-year member of the HHS choir, serving as president in her senior year. She has also been on the tennis team four years and National Honors Society for two years. She is also involved in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the church youth group and has participated on four mission trip.
She is the daughter of Terry and Kandis Pankratz.
