Open house planned for new building at Marion Airport

An open house celebration is planned May 24 at the new Marion Municipal Airport building that was constructed using money from the Pearl Baxter Estate, honoring her husband, George Baxter.

The event begins with a variety of foods to include hamburgers and all the trimming, cupcakes, strawberries and drinks from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., said Dick McLinden, one of the coordinators. Starting at 1 p.m., the building will be dedicated.

In addition to the building dedication, the Kansas Flying Farmers will have a co-coordinator honoring the groups 65th anniversary, McLinden said.

The celebration will also include re-naming the airport from Marion Municipal Airport to Marion Municipal Airport-Baxter Field.

The new building will also be named, ?The Baxter Flight Center,?

Everyone is invited for lunch, the dedication ceremony, learn some history about the airport and take a tour of the new facility, he said.
