Nursing student receives $5,000 scholarship

Lisa Shoop, a nursing student from Coffeyville has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship to help complete her degree.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation Scholarship winner was chosen in January after an application process.

“During her time in the RN-BSN program, Lisa has demonstrated the college’s mission through her work and service to teen moms, infants, children and other vulnerable groups in Montgomery County,” said Staci Ford, director of nursing at Tabor College Wichita.

“Lisa’s ability to continue lifelong learning through her commitment to nursing and education is an inspiration.”

TCW, with support from BCBS of Kansas Foundation, awarded the one-time scholarship to one nursing student enrolled in the RN to BSN program.

Shoop, who previously worked with dementia patients at an assisted living facility, decided to earn her BSN degree to make a change in her career.

Shoop currently works at the Montgomery County Health Department as home visitor and teen pregnancy case manager and hopes to continue advancing her leadership skills.

“I plan to incorporate a way to involve Christ’s teaching in our department,” Shoop said. “I think that following his guidance will help us better serve our client’s needs. Having an understanding, caring, compassionate peace to our practice will help us to guide our clients to a healthier lifestyle.”
