Newhard to direct student success at Tabor

When Don Krebs decided to retire at the end of this past calendar year, Tabor College officials didn?t have to look far to find his replacement.

After working closely with Krebs in the fall, Karen Newhard has become the new director of student success.

?Karen has a great background in student development at more than one college,? said Eric Codding, dean of student development. ?Don highly recommended Karen after having her on staff last semester.?

Newhard came to Hillsboro with her husband, Chad, the new baseball coach at Tabor. She had been the director of student life, leadership and development at Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana. She also worked as a family consultant for Lifeline Youth and Family Services in Fort Wayne, Ind., and as resident director at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.

She received a bachelor of science degree in counseling from Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind., in 1999.

As director of student success, Newhard will have various responsibilities in the Student Development Office. Retention of students will continue to be a priority, as will helping students on academic probation.

Krebs? passion for students made the Student Development Office a popular place to be over the past nine years, and Newhard looks forward to building on that success.

?Don had a lot of confidence in me,? Newhard said. ?My goal for this office is to continue to build relationships with students.?
