Marion Middle School swept the board at the Heart of America Middle School Music Festival by achieving superior ?1? ratings for every vocal and choral performance.
The festival, which took place at Hutchinson Trinity March 10, featured soloists, small ensembles and large groups performances that were rated by judges.
Choirs, soloists and ensembles are rated on a scale of 1-to-5. A ?1? represents an outstanding performance, and is the highest rating a school or student can receive.
?The fact that all vocal music performances received a 1 rating is extraordinary and uncommon,? said Julia Miller, MMS vocal director.
?I am so incredibly proud of these kids,? she added. ?It takes an immense amount of courage to get up and sing in front of a judge. Not only did these kids accomplish that, but they sang at an exceptional level.?
The following 10 soloists each received the top rating: Emily Hutchison, Drew Hel?mer, Luke Lanning, Caleb Tomlinson, Charlie Nord?quist, Alissa Adame, Chloe Burkholder, Samantha Kelsey, Aubrey Craig and Elizabeth Schaefer.
Also receiving a 1 was the women?s small ensemble comprised of Alissa Adame, Jazmin Lewis, Sadie Mac?donald, Corrina Crabb, Cassie Meyer, Kennedy Fahey, Chloe Burkholder, Aubrey Craig, Drew Helmer, Elizabeth Schaefer, Emily Hutchison, Rebecca Sawyer, Emmy Hess and Luisa Junqueira.
All seventh and eighth graders at MMS participate in choir, which received the superior rating from all three judges.
