MHS Greenhands place second in agronomy

First-year FFA members from the Marion-Florence FFA chapter received second place at the South Central District FFA Agron­omy career development event Wednesday, March 29.

First-year members competed in the Greenhand Division and were required to identify 100 samples of common weeds, field and grain crops. Participants had to identify the plant, the seed or both.

Shelby Cairns placed eighth and Cassie Meyer placed 10th individually for Marion.

Caleb Hett participated in the senior division of the Agronomy career development event and placed ninth. Senior division participants were required to identify 100 plants as well as complete three grain grading activities, three seed analysis problems, take a written information test on agronomy information, complete an agronomy calculation practicum and identify diseases, common pests or equipment used in agronomy.
