MHS FFAers win top prize in ag mechanics CDE

Students from Marion High School placed first in the South Central District Agriculture Mechanical and Technical Systems Career Development Event on Wednesday, April 20, at McPherson High School.

The theme of the contest was over animal systems. Contestants were required to complete several tests and practicums over animal waste control, energy systems and feedlot design.

Some of the activities included reading and interpreting electrical wiring diagrams, identifying parts and troubleshooting a feed-mixer wagon, completing a mig welding exercise, a measuring exercise, troubleshooting and repairing a livestock heater, and a team activity that involved surveying and establishing elevations.

Individually for Marion, Remington Putter placed first overall, Ezra Darnall placed second, Nicholas Stuchlik was fifth, Jeremy Hett sixth and Bryce Shults placed seventh.

Marion’s B-team, consisting of Putter, Ryan Cochran and William Adame placed first in the B-team competition. Marion’s other B-team placed second. That team included Dan Hinton, Antone Vinduska and Jarret McLinden.

Entomology CDE—Marion-Florence FFA placed third at the South Central District Ento­mology Career Develop­ment Event, March 30. Marion hosted the event at Buhler High School.

Students competing in the event were required to complete a written test over insects and identify 50 sample insect specimens.

Marion placed third in the A-team division with Colton Mercer placing third individually. Marion’s Greenhand team placed first in its division with Rebecca Sawyer placing first, Devin Soyez second, Cameron Steward seventh and Alissa Adame ninth.
