Officers of the Marion-Florence FFA chapter placed third overall at the South Central District FFA Leadership Conference Friday, Nov. 11, at Arkansas City High School.
The conference consisted of three different competitions in the areas of parliamentary procedure, leadership information, and ritual.
Marion placed second in the FFA information contest, third in parliamentary procedure, and sixth in the ritual contest. These rankings combined to give the chapter a third-place overall finish among 26 teams in the South Central District.
Students competing in the parliamentary procedure contest were required to take a test over the topic, then perform a 10-minute demonstration of 10 different parliamentary motions.
This demonstration had to reflect a meeting in progress and participants found out which motions they had to demonstrate and their topic exactly one minute before beginning the demonstration.
The leadership information contest consisted of a 100-question test over the agricultural industry, the FFA organization, officers, history, official functions, and current programs and awards.
Students in the ritual contest were required to perform the opening ceremony used at FFA meetings and official functions.
Individually for Marion, Aidan Cairns placed sixth in the FFA information test and Cade Harms placed seventh. Students competing for Marion were Cairns, Harms, Carley Stapleford, Kaitlyn Goebel, Ezra Darnall, Antone Vinduska and Devin Soyez.
