Meyer earns bronze at National FFA speech competition

Elizabeth Meyer (third from left), of the Marion-Florence FFA chapter receives congratulations from two representatives from the American Farm Bureau Federation, after receiving the bronze emblem in the National FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking Career Development Event held in conjunction with the 89th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Oct. 21-23. Pictured with her are Mark Meyer (far left), Marion chapter adviser, and speaking coach Anthony Meals. The top four finishers among the 46 students who participated received cash awards from AFBF, the event sponsor. The event is intended to recognize FFA members for their ability to prepare and present a factual speech on a specific agricultural issue. Participants select one topic from a choice of categories, then have 30 minutes to prepare a four- to six-minute speech, and respond to five minutes of questions following delivery.
