Courtesy photoSaturday night, 69 students from Marion Elementary School traveled to Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita to sing the national anthem before the Wichita Thunder Hockey game vs. the Missouri Mavericks.

The children performed near the ice with a spotlight on them.

MES music teacher, Anita Hancock, directed the choir.

?The students were very excited and very enthusiastic about being there and being able to sing in that atmosphere,? Hancock said. ?They sang out, they sounded full and they did a great job performing!?

MES Principal Justin Wasmuth organized the trip and helped make this opportunity possible.

?I got a call about this opportunity and thought this would be a great opportunity for our students to showcase their talent,? Wasmuth said. ?I was hoping for around 40 students, but was amazed by the number that came.?

Wasmuth sold a total of 231 tickets to the game, 164 were for family members. The children met up with their parents after their performance to watch the Thunder beat the Mavericks 6-0.

All students received a free T-Dog T-shirt given away at the game.

?The students knocked it out of the park with their singing and with representing Marion Elementary School,? Wasmuth said. ?I am very proud of all of the students who participated.?
