Marion teacher wins grant for Wichita students

Shafers teamKelly Schafers (fourth from left) of Marion, a teacher at Adams Elemen?tary School in Wichita, accepts an education grant for $388.80 prior to a Wichita Wingnuts playoff game against the Grand Prairie Airhogs earlier this month. Participating in the presentation are two Wingnuts mascots and members of the Schafers family. The grant, funded by the Wingnuts and Sonic Drive-In?s ?Limeades for Learning? program, was written through Donors?Choose.org, an online charity. Her winning project was titled ?Movement Matters in Pre-K? because her school is currently under construction and does not have a playground at this time. Schafers said she selected play items that will allow her students to improve their gross motors skills while having fun. This is the third grant for which Schafers has received full funding. The first one was for literary station activities, and the second for math and science. Both projects were course requirements for her master?s program at Wichita State University. In total, Schafers has received $1,400 in free materials from Lakeshore, a provider of educational products.
