Marion High welders win MIG welding competition

MarionFFAWeldingGroup Marion High School students received first place at the Kansas Welding Institute invitational MIG (metal inert gas) welding contest Friday, March 15. The contest was hosted by the North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit. Seven Marion students placed in the top 20. Aaron Molleker placed first, Clint Kroupa second, Patrick McCarty third, Zac Lewman seventh, Nick Meyer 10th, Clark Kroupa 16th and Cody Carr 18th. Team members were required to read and interpret blueprints to correctly place and perform five welds on 3/8-inch plate and to perform four welds on 1/4-inch plate. They were also given a written test on MIG welding.
