The Marion-Florence FFA chapter placed third at the South Central Dis?trict FFA Public Speaking Career Development Event hosted by Welling?ton High School Jan. 14.
Participants presented prepared speeches ranging in length and also competed in the extemporaneous division. Speeches were two to four minutes long for freshmen and six to eight minutes long for the senior division.
Students competing in the extemporaneous division drew their topic and had 30 minutes to prepare a speech of four to six minutes. Parti?cipants in the senior and extemporaneous divisions were required to answer questions about their topic as well.
Individually, Braden Fahey placed second and Elizabeth Meyer fourth in the senior division, which qualified them to participate in the state public speaking career development event.
Meyer also placed first in the extemporaneous division and qualified for the state event in that division.
Aidan Cairns placed seventh in the sophomore division while Carley Stapleford made the finals and placed sixth in the freshman division. Antone Vinduska placed eighth and Alli Hett ninth in the freshman division.
Also competing from Marion were Kaylie Waner, Caleb Hett and Jayden Hallowell.
