Marion/Florence FFA Attends National FFA Convention

Members of the Marion/Florence FFA Chapter traveled to Indianapolis, IN to attend the 91st National FFA Convention from Oct. 25 -27. Over 69,000 students, parents, and advisors attended the annual convention.

The theme for this year’s convention was “Just One”. Members watched at convention sessions as awards were presented to national winners, listened to retiring addresses from the national FFA officers, and heard key-note addresses from Kyle Scheele and Judson Laipply as well as John Deere CEO, Samuel R. Allen. Members were also able to view exhibits and visit with potential employers and colleges at the FFA Exposition which featured more than 300 exhibitors.

A highlight for this year’s convention was an appearance by President Donald Trump who spoke to attendees about agriculture and policies implemented by the president’s administration that affected agriculture. The president was preceded by Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue who also spoke to members during the Saturday afternoon session.

Members from the Marion/Florence chapter toured the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the National FFA Center while in Indianapolis.

Elizabeth Meyer from the Marion/Florence chapter ran for national office. She had previously been selected as the national officer candidate from Kansas and was one of only 23 members in the nation who were finalists for a national officer position.

Members attending from Marion included Peyton Ensey, Cassie Meyer, Lane Watkins, Mickelly Soyez, Gracie Mackey, and Karlee Fetrow. Mark Meyer and Marsha Meyer served as sponsors for the trip.
