K-State director of bands to direct here

Kansas State’s Frank Tracz.Frank Tracz, professor of music and director of bands at Kansas State University, will be the guest conductor when the Hillsboro High School Band takes the stage for a instrumental music concert that begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 13, in the school auditorium.

At K-State, Tracz coordinates undergraduate and graduate conducting activities, teaches classes in music education and administers and guides all aspects of the K-State band program.

Under his direction, K-State instrumental ensembles and bands have per­formed in numerous regional and national conferences. The “Pride of Wildcat Land” Marching Band has traveled to nationally acclaimed bowl games in support of the university and has received numerous awards.

Tracz has served as an adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor for all state and honor bands across the nation, as well as in Canada and Singapore. Recently returned from South Africa, where he conducted an honor band consisting of students from seven nations. The evening prior to the concert, Tracz will be working with local band students.

The Monday concert will include performances by the HMS percussion trio, the 7-8th grade band and the high school saxophone quartet and concert band.

Music will come from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries in styles that include march, swing and Russian music.

Following the concert, a public reception is planned for Tracz in the commons area.
