Jessi Dalke wins HES bee by spelling ?alderman?

Fifth-grader Jessi Dalke won last week?s spelling bee at Hillsboro Elementary School. She and Charlie Major (far right) will represent the school at the county bee next month. Brody Rader (far left), who placed third will be the alternate of either of the other two cannot compete.Spellers from Hillsboro Elementary School competed last week to represent their school at the upcoming countywide spelling bee scheduled for Feb. 5 at the Hillsboro High School auditorium.

Fifth-grader Jessi Dalke correctly spelled ?alderman? to clinch first place. Runner-up was fifth-grader Charlie Major and fourth-grader Brody Rader was named alternate.

The following HES students also qualified the local spell-off contest.

? First grade: Scout Redger, alternate Colton Rempel; Luke Isaac, alternate Lincoln Wichert; Noah Beavers, alternate Lilli Johnson.

? Second grade: Dawson Boldt; alternate Trudy Hein; Sam Sorenson, alternate Landry Duerksen; Kaysie Rader, alternate Josiah Wiebe.

? Third grade: Camden Padgett; Sammy Phillips, alternate Tanner Plett; Kori Arnold; Tylee Miller, alternate Katie Rempel.

? Fourth grade: Malorie Hein; Isabelle Whorton, alternate Connor Hiebert; Blane Bernhardt; Jasee Hamm; Matthew Potucek, and alternate Ellie Noble.

? fifth-graders MaryElena Heyen; Taryah Miller; Maddie Suderman, alternate Addisen Ward; Kyla Isaac, and alternate Kaylee Lopez.
