Hillsboro Chess Guild hosted its second Kansas Scholastic Chess Association K-12 chess tournament Saturday in the Middle School Gym.
Trophies and medals were awarded to teams and individuals in four divisions (K-3, K-5, K-8 and K-12).
In the K-3 Division, Hillsboro Elementary School team won the third-place trophy. Jacob Den?holm placed fifth, Addie Berens 13th and Elias Kalua 15th.
In the K-5 Division, HES won the third-place team trophy. Julian Hessel placed 14th, Alex Lubbers 15th, Brodie Rathbone 23rd, Jonathan Hinerman 24th, Colin Settle 25th, Dakota Klein 30th, Jenna Hinerman 32nd.
In the K-8 Division, Hillsboro Middle School placed fourth. Jordan Fryhover was ninth, Matthew Denholm 24th; Reece Berens 29th, Leighton Wagner 35th.
In the K-12 Division, Hillsboro High School placed fourth. Daniel Gray was 11th, Michael Christian 17th, Marshall Hoffner 19th, Justin King 23rd, Jeff Pritchard 28th, Matthew Richert 29th.
With the results from Saturday, 21 members of the guild have qualified for the state Chess Championships in Kansas City, March 13.

In the K-5 Division, Jonathan Hinerman, Brodie Rathbone, Ben Koop, Dakota Klein and Colin Settle have qualified.
In the K-6 Division, the qualifiers are Jordan Fryhover, Reece Berens, Matthew Denholm, Leighton Wagner.
Qualifying in the K-12 Division are Michael Christian, Justin King, Marshall Hoffner, Matthew Richert, Daniel Gray, Jeff Pritchard.
