David Witt, an eighth-grader at Hillsboro Middle School, displays an anti-bullying T-shirt that features his winning design. HMS students will be receiving their T-shirts this week as part of the school?s effort to discourage bullying in school. Students selected Witt?s design by a large margin among three finalists that were selected by staff among nine submissions. The contest was sponsored by the HMS Student Council. The back of the T-shirts will display four rules about bullying at HMS: (1) We will not bully others; (2) We will try to help students who are bullied; (3) We will include students who are easily left out; (4) When we know somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home. This is the fourth year HMS has had an anti-bullying program, according to principal Greg Brown. He defined bullying as ?an imbalance of power between students as the result of status, age or size.?
