HMS sixth-graders receive check for completing natural-gas safety unit

Jim Bartling (far left), representing Atmos Energy, presents a check for $250 to Hillsboro Middle School sixth-graders Thursday for participating in the company?s safety-education program for students regarding natural gas. Bartling said Atmos launched the program because today?s middle school students are tomorrow?s natural-gas customers. Teacher Len Coryea led the unit. The sixth-graders also developed a safety presentation of their own in competition with other schools. The winning presentation will receive $1,000 from Atmos. Coryea said the $250 will be used to replace worn out equipment in the science room.
