HMS receives grant for ‘Healthy Habits’

Hillsboro Middle School has been awarded a grant of $945.95 as part of a funding opportunity provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.

In all, BCBS is sending $148,757 in “Healthy Habits for Life” grants to 65 Kansas counties. The grants will help school nurses, teachers and administrators fund programs or activities in 2018 aimed at helping children reduce their cardiovascular risk, increase their physical activity and learn healthy eating habits.

HMS teachers Maura Wiebe and Collette Haslett applied for the grant and will use the funds to buy new playground resources such as a variety of sports balls, soccer goals and flag football set.
