HM/HS among 11 schools to earn Governor?s Award

Hillsboro Middle/High School is one of 11 schools in Kansas who have been recognized as part of the annual Governor?s Achievement Awards, honoring top-performing schools in the state.

In order to receive a Governor?s Award, schools had to receive building-level Assessment Performance Index scores in the top 80 percent in math and reading. Schools also had to be in the top 5 percent of elementary schools or high schools.

?The Governor?s Award recognizes a school?s high expectations for student success and the ability of the school community and culture to work together to assist students in reaching those high expectations,? said Randy Watson, Kansas Commissioner of Education.

The award is based on the Assessment Performance Index of 10th-grade students from 2014-15 in reading and math.

The other 10 high schools to receive the award are Bishop Carroll Catholic (Wichita Catholic Diocese), Blue Valley (USD 229), Blue Valley North(USD 229), Blue Valley Northwest (USD 229), Blue Valley Southwest (USD 229), Olathe Northwest (USD 233), Shawnee Mission East (USD 512) St. John (Salina Catholic Diocese), St. Thomas Aquinas (Kansas City Catholic Diocese) and St. James Academy (Kansas City Catholic Diocese).
