Hillsboro to present “Wizard of Oz” in November

Hillsboro High School will present “The Wizard of Oz” at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 14, 15 and 16. In the event of the football team continuing on in the playoffs, the Friday, Nov. 15, performance will be moved to an alternate date.

Director Lynn Just explains that this is the original stage version and is based on the book by L. Frank Baum, not the MGM movie. Much of the story is the same, with the same familiar songs, but also includes characters, not in the movie and deletes others, like the Winkies and Toto. This version will also include some audience participation in the form of magic wands. Lighted wands may be purchased before each performance to help the Good Witch freeze the jitterbugs that are trying to keep Dorothy from getting to Oz and then again to help Dorothy get back to Kansas. Wands are $5. Reserved seats for the musical are $7 and can be purchased by following the link on the USD 410 website or coming in person to the high school office. Payments in the office can be made with cash, check, or credit card. Phone reservations will not be taken.
