Hillsboro Scholars Bowl team places fourth

The Hillsboro High School Scholars Bowl team placed fourth out of 18 teams at the Nov. 20 meet at Sterling.

Team members Sam Book?less, Cody Blackketter, Ben Gottsch and David Winter won their pool with a 4-1 record. They defeated Russell 40-25, Smoky Valley 40-30, Moundridge 90-10 and Nickerson 40-30, then lost to Little River, 20-30.

Moundridge also finished 4-1, but Hillsboro advanced to the semifinals based on head-to-head competition. In the semifinals match, Hillsboro High School lost to Central Christian of Hutchinson, 20-60, then lost to Hutchinson Trinity in the third-place match, 20-80.

?David and Cody did well like they usually do and it was also great to have Sam and Ben get a key question at the end of the two close matches,? coach Stuart Holmes said.

?I know the guys wanted to finish stronger, but each set of questions is different, and against those same teams, the results could be different next time.?
