Hillsboro chess teams place well at tourney

Teams from the Hillsboro Chess Guild placed near the top Nov. 3 at a tournament hosted by Canton-Galva. The high school, K-8 team and K-5 team all placed second in their respective divisions. A K-2 team from Hillsboro placed third. For the high school, Matthew Denholm placed fifth individually, Daniel Gray ninth and Jordan Fryhover 10th. For the K-8 team, Ben Koop finished third, Brodie Rathbone eighth and Alex Lubbers 15th. For the K-5 team, Jacob Denholm placed fourth and Abby Fryhover second. In K-3 competition, Kellan Huebner placed 11th, Tristan Rathbone ninth and Zachary Denholm fifth.
