Hillsboro Chess Guild takes first place at tournament

Jacob Denholm, Zachary Denholm, Jason Latham, Joshua Diener and Nathan Lopez of the Hillsboro Chess team, with their first-place trophy. On Nov. 2, the Hillsboro Chess Guild traveled to Canton-Galva High School to compete in their second scholastic chess tournament of the season. Although the tournament was a bit smaller than most, the competition was every bit as challenging. The result of their efforts was a first-place team trophy. Individually, Jacob Denholm led the team with a 4th place finish, followed closely by Jason Latham at 5th. The team rounded out the individual medal count with Zachary Denholm in 8th, Nathan Lopez in 15th, and Joshua Diener in 16th.
