Hillsboro Chess Guild competes at Valley Center tournament

Hillsboro Chess Guild high school team members Jordan Fryhover (third overall-freshman) and Matthew Denholm (ninth overall-freshman) competed Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Valley Center chess tournament earning recognition as Top 10 players. Also competing in Saturday’s tournament were: Zach Denholm, who claimed third place, K-2 division; AJ Driggers, Elias Kalua, Abby Fryhover, Jacob Denholm and Chandler Hamilton in the K-5 division; Alex Lubbers and Kayla Gunn in the K-8 division. Hillsboro Chess Guild will host its home tournament Saturday, March 2, in the middle school gym. Any K-12 student wishing to compete in the tournament should contact Janet Whisenhunt at the high school.
