Members of Spirit-N-Celebration arrive in garb for a chilly day at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival on Saturday, Oct. 10.

The Hillsboro High School select vocal ensemble Spirit-N-Celebration traveled to the Kansas City area Oct. 10-11 to perform several differente concerts.

On Saturday they dressed in costume and braved the cold weather to perform two concerts at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs. Their program consisted of 16 madrigals from the Renaissance period.

On Saturday evening, the group rehearsed with Melvin Kerr, director of the St. Monica?s Catholic Church Gospel Choir in downtown Kansas City.

Kerr demonstrasted to the students how gospel music is taught (by rote) and how the different sections of the choir harmonize.

He taught the group three songs that would be sung with his choir the next morning, as well as letting them know they would be learning one ?on the spot? during the service, as is usual for his choir.

On Sunday, SNC joined the St. Monica?s choir during morning mass.
