HHS Scholars Bowl team place sixth at Lyons meet

The Hillsboro High School Scholars Bowl team finished sixth among 15 teams at a meet in Lyons Dec. 8.

The team finished second in pool play with a 3-1 mark, defeating Pratt 45-40, Ellinwood 50-10 and Nickerson 70-20, and lost to Haven 60-50 on the last question.

The second-place teams from each of the three pools then played a round-robin to determine fourth, fifth and sixth place. Hillsboro dropped both of its matches, 60-35 to Wichita Collegiate and 70-40 to Claflin.

Competing for Hillsboro were Cody Blackketter, Sam Bookless, Bri Loewen and David Winter.

?The kids competed well again and were just edged out on the last questions versus Haven, which would have made us undefeated in pool play and put us in the top three in today?s format,? said coach Stuart Holmes.

?It was great to have Bri for the first time this year at a meet. She and all the guys contributed.?
