The Hillsboro High School Chess Guild received notice Friday that the Hillsboro Com?munity Foundation Board of Directors voted to fund its Hillsboro Area Impact Fund grant request of $500.
The grant will allow one Chess Guild team member the opportunity to attend summer chess camp at the world renowned Anatoly Karpov International School of Chess in Lindsborg this summer.
Guest instructor for the 2008 summer camps is grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian, winner of the 2007 World Open.
The summer chess camp provides chess instruction with highly qualified chess teachers in a camp setting including leadership and additional training to bring their newfound knowledge and enthusiasm for the game of chess back to their area teams.
Each camper will be given chess materials to improve his or her chess knowledge. The week-long overnight camp housed at Bethany College begins with a simultaneous game with Akobian.
