Goessel Elementary School is one of only 40 schools across the state to receive the Governor?s Achievement Award, a new recognition program established by the Kansas State Board of Education.
To qualify for the award, a school must receive the Stand?ard of Excellence on state assessments for both reading and math, meet all ?Adequate Yearly Progress? criteria, and be in the top 5 percent of all elementary schools academically in the state.
Kansas has 817 accredited elementary schools.
?Our staff and students have worked extremely hard, with our staff going the extra yard to help all students learn,? said John Fast, Goessel superintendent and elementary school principal.
A formal public presentation of the certificate is planned for Goessel patrons at the school?s Christmas program on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
