Goessel, Centre Scholars Bowl teams make state

BowlingThe Scholars Bowl teams from Goessel and Centre high schools qualified for state competition by placing first and third at the regional tournament Feb. 6 at Southern Coffey County High School in LeRoy. Goessel compiled an 8-1 record on the way to the title. The Bluebirds defeated Lebo 70-20, Flinthills 60-20, Southern Coffey County 60-10, Madison 50-0, St. Paul 50-10, Centre 50-30, Waverly 80-0 and Hartford 120-10 and lost to Marmaton Valley 50-35. Meanwhile, the Cougars compiled a 6-3 record. Centre opened with a 30-20 win over Waverly, then defeated Madison 20-10, St. Paul 60-10, Flint Hills 40-20, Hartford 40-30 and Marmatan Valley 40-25 before Bowlinglosing in consecutive rounds to Goessel 50-30, Southern Coffey County 50-10 and Lebo 40-30. Com?pet?ing for Centre were (from left) Nellie Kassebaum, Brenna Shields, Kevin Lewis, Tim Vin?duska and Grant Srajer. Vinduska was the team?s high scorer with 110 points, followed by Kassebaum with 100 and Lewis with 90. The state contest is scheduled for this Saturday at Satanta.
