GJH robotics team competes at state contest

Goessel?s junior high robotics program sent six teams to Manhattan to participate in the Kansas Robotics League competition April 10.

Eighty-seven teams participated in the event which included The Maze, Capture the Flag, Sumo Bots, Sumo Wrestling, King of the Hill and Chicken Dance.

The KRL competition is for students who combine math, logic, time management, creative problem solving, teamwork, sportsmanship, communication, patience and perseverance.

Student participants were Jake Herrel, Lucas Hiebert, Chase Flaming, Mark Schmidt, Alicen Meysing, Ben Wiens, Aaron Woelk, Ashley Hiebert, Jordan Schmucker, Luke Unruh and Zach Wiens.

The Goessel team of Aaron Woelk and Ashley Hiebert finished first in the advanced division of King of the Hill. Coaches were Sherri Sells, Marion County Extended Learning Program facilitator, and Dale Wiens, teacher/parent.
