GHS musicians qualify for state

Students from Goessel High School participated Saturday in the Kansas State High School Activities Association Regional Solo and Small Ensemble Festival at Tabor College in Hillsboro.

The festival is a qualifying event for the state competition for solos and small ensembles. To qualify for state, a soloist or ensemble must receive a I rating.

The following soloists qualified for state: Sara Bowman, string bass; Jessica Goertzen, vocal; Michelle Unruh, bass clarinet; Hannah Franzen, tenor saxophone; Joylin Hall, vocal; Chrystiana Voth, clarinet, vocal; Laura Unruh, clarinet vocal; Kristen Hoffman, french horn; Katie Flaming, vocal; Kristin Unruh, flute; Amy Brubaker, clarinet, vocal; Bryant Miller, vocal; Cameron Voth, vocal; Austin Unruh, vocal; Neal Brubaker, vocal; Ryan Goertzen, vocal.

The following ensembles qualified for state: Elbiata Singers, clarinet quartet, boys? vocal ensemble, saxophone quartet and girls? vocal ensemble.

Students receiving II ratings were Sara Sebring, vocal; Kristin Unruh, vocal; Neal Brubaker, trombone; Isaac Fast, vocal; Travis Duerksen, vocal; David Wiens, vocal.

The students were accompanied by Karen Unruh and Marcia Brubaker.

Instructors for the GHS Music Department are Greg Bontrager, vocal music, and Mike Connell, instrumental music.
