Sisters Lisa (left) and Lauren Geis of the Tampa Triple T?s 4-H Club wait behind the scenes at the Kansas State Fair ?Grand Gayla,? an event that honors all the breed champions and showmanship winners, and where officials pick the champion overall market animals. Lisa was named fifth overall showman in the swine division while Lauren showed a Berkshire gilt that won its class and was named reserve champion in the ?Dark, Any Other Breed? category. Lauren also showed a light crossbred gilt that won its class. Lisa showed a crossbred breeding gilt that was seventh in class, two dark crossbred gilts and a light cross barrow that all made the top 10 in class. The swine entries at the state fair totaled 419 market hogs, including 277 breeding gilts. In the senior showmanship competition, both girls made the call-back after the four initial heats. ?Lisa sorted her way to the top five and I couldn?t have been more happy than to have been beaten by my own sister at my last state fair,? Lauren said. ?I was very proud of her. I have had success in the past and was sure happy to see it be her turn.?
