Fruechting and Smith win MES spelling bee

Thirty fourth-through-sixth grade students participated in the Marion Elementary School Spelling Bee on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Spellers competed to see who would qualify to represent MES at the Marion County Spelling Bee being hosted by Marion on Feb. 11. The top two finishers will represent the school.

Fifth-grader Zach Fruechting won the bee, fourth-grader Tori Smith was the runner up and fourth-grader Phoebe Hett will be the alternate for finishing third.

The judges were Kris Burkholder, Margaret Pippin and Lori Kirkpatrick) for their support.

The county bee will begin at 10 a.m. in Performing Arts Center located on the Marion High School campus.
