Goessel High School?s 2009 graduating class of 18 seniors had five valedictorians with a 4.0 grade-point average this spring. They were (pictured above, from left): Anthony Esau, Chrystiana Voth, Austin Unruh, Amy Brubacher and James Goerzen. GHS counselor Janna Duerksen said the five students represent a class that has been unusually successful academically throughout their careers. Since taking their first state assessment as fourth-graders, they have reached the ?Standard of Excellence? on each occasion. Beyond that, they have competed at state levels in numerous activities, from music to athletics. Duerksen said the hard-working class actually raised more funds than it needed for the senior trip this spring and donated $350 left over to the Joyful Noise Daycare Center in the community. Duerksen estimated 12 of the class members have traveled through the Goessel system together since the start of their school experience.
