Five Goessel piano students perform at state festival

Five Goessel High School piano students performed at the annual State Piano Festival Saturday, March 21, in Wichita.

?Never before have so many students from Goessel High School qualified for the State Piano Festival,? said Mike Connell, band director at Goessel High School.

?Each of the students performed beautifully, and three received the Highly Superior (I) rating, while two received the Excellent (II) rating,? he said.

The five Goessel students and their ratings are: Austin Unruh, senior, I rating; Chrystiana Voth, senior, II rating; Michelle Unruh, sophomore, I rating; Lindsey Wedel, junior, II rating and Kristen Hoffman, junior, I rating.

In order to qualify for state competition, each of the performers received a Highly Superior (I) rating at Regional Piano Festivals, he said.

The festival was hosted by Wichita State University.
