FFA chapter wins district contest

Members of the Marion- Florence FFA chapter won the Greenhand division of the South Central District FFA Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event hosted by Hutchinson Community College April 6 at the state fairgrounds.

Individually, Katey Ehrlich placed second, Nick Meyer fifth, Lauren McLinden 16th and Jordan Laurin 19th.

The team of Ehrlich, Meyer and McLinden won the Green?hand division. The team of Laurin, Kaitlyn Frese, Zac Lewman and Devan Carr placed ninth in the Greenhand division.

Participants were required to evaluate and place eight classes of cattle, sheep and swine. They also had to give a set of oral reasons and answer questions over three classes of cattle.

Other participants from Marion included Alicia Maloney, Caitlyn Maloney, Clint Kroupa, Abbey Smith, Amanda Stuchlik, James Jones, Timothy Knolla, Sean Buchanan, John Jordquist, Dylan Seacat, Taylor Heide?brecht and Brandon Helvie.

On the same day, a team from the Marion-Florence FFA placed fourth at the HCC Invitational Entomology Contest held in conjunction with the college?s Aggie Days activity.

Contestants were required to identify 50 insect samples and complete a written test over the insects.
