Kevin Tidwell (left), from Hillsboro High School, and Ryan Wiebe, from Peabody High School, hold the trophy they won by placing second in the state finals of the Ford/AAA trouble shooting contest. The contest started in February with a written test. The students had to place among top two on their team of ten and have one of the top 10 team scores in the state. Tidwell and Wiebe then competed in the hands-on portion of the competition at Kansas City Speedway on May 15. They had 90 minutes to repair a 2008 Ford Escape that had been ?bugged? with about 12 different problems. For the contest the pair were awarded more than $10,000 in automotive scholarships to various automotive schools across the nation. They have full scholarships to the Pratt Community College automotive program, several Ford education facilities as well as a number of other out-of-state technical schools such as Universal Technical Institute and Tennessee Diesel College.
