The Hillsboro Chess Guild hosted its home tournament Saturday, and of the 24 local participants, 22 came away with medals.
Two teams won trophies out of four divisions.
?We had a great turnout from our elementary club students, and even though we usually only give medals to the top 25, we were able to award medals to all students in the K-5 and K-3 divisions,? said Leah Rose, guild sponsor.
Rose said 113 students from more than 20 school participated in the tournament.
?We had teams come from as far as Concordia, Thomas Moore Prep and Garden City, as well as several Wichita schools, and a few closer, such as Canton-Galva, Marion, Smoky Valley and a few McPherson schools,? she said.
In the K-3 Division, the team from Hillsboro placed second. Individual medal winners were Zander Haslett sixth, Logan Frantz seventh and Angus Duell 11th.
Individual medal winners in the K-5 Division were Zachary Denholm 15th, Sawyer Hall 16th, Connor Padgett 18th, Duncan Duell 19th, Josh Siebert 20th, Camden Padgett 21st, Sam Pohlmann 22nd, Joshua Diener 23rd, Wenxi Funk 24th, D?Myia Cox 25th, Demarius Cox 26th, Santi Schafers 27th and Tylee Miller 28th.
In K-8 Division, the Hillsboro team placed second. Winning individual medals were Kayla Gunn 11th, Abby Fryhover 10th and Jacob Denholm fifth. Taryah Miller and Charlie Major did not medal.
In the K-12 Division, Jordan Fryhover placed 12th and Kalen Moss 22nd.
