Cherenkov wins state piano competition

Vasilisa Cherenkov won the 7th-8th grade division of the Kansas Music Teachers Association’s State Honors Auditions on Saturday, Oct 26.

The event was held at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas with over 500 participants spanning ages first grade through college. There were 70 entries in her age group. She competed against students from across the state.

She prepared two pieces for this event. She impressed the judges with her sensitive and expressive playing along with her ability to handle challenging repertoire.

She is a student of Dr. Sheila Litke, Tabor College. “I am so proud of all the work Vasilisa put in to this event”, Litke said. “She is a joy to work with and it is such an honor to win at the state level. It is a reflection of Vasilisa’s musical giftedness, hours of daily practice, and her love of music.”

She is the daughter of Dr. Michael and Nina Cherenkov, Ukrainian missionaries with Missions Euraisa. Dr. Michael Cherenkov is Visiting Professor at Tabor College.
