Centre students are working to raise funds to support the research, information and advocacy efforts of the American Diabetes Association.
Students at Centre Elementary School will walk for 21 minutes during the school day to signify the nearly 21 million Americans who have diabetes. Centre 5th and 6th graders will have a nature walk during physical education class, with activities to teach students about the seriousness of diabetes, and how healthy eating and exercise can help prevent the disease.
?We are excited to participate in the School Walk for Diabetes,? said Jennifer Kassebaum, School Walk Coordinator. ?It is a chance for students to learn about the importance of healthy lifestyle choices: daily exercise, eating healthy and taking good care of their bodies. With the School Walk, students can make a difference in our community, support their classmates with diabetes and at the same time raise money for an important cause.?
The schools will receive a percentage of the funds raised to purchase needed physical education equipment and school medical supplies.
A rain date for Centre?s School Walk is set for May 7, 2008.
