The Centre Elementary fifth and sixth grade Music Memory team took third place April 20 at the state Music Memory Contest held at Kansas State University in Manhattan.
Team members included Abigail Svoboda, Kristin Vinduska, Jacob Matz, James Spohn, Ally Basore and alternate Brendan Bina.
Participants took a written test similar to the old game show, ?Name that Tune.?
?They listened to three- to five-second clips from each of the 16 pieces in this year?s Music Memory curriculum,? said Lynley Remy, CES coach.
The three teams scoring the highest on the written test moved on to the lightning round.
Students had to name the composer, the major work and name of the selection in order for an answer to be counted correct.
?This is Centre?s fifth year to compete in the annual competition,? Remy said. ?We have finished in the top three each year, winning the competition last year and in 2006.?
