With the assistance of Marion County’s Emergency Medical Services, law enforcement and Marion County Fire District 5, Centre High School observed a mock vehicle accident rescue on Friday afternoon to encourage safe driving. With three students volunteering as accident “victims,” emergency personnel demonstrated the techniques used by professional rescue workers in freeing victims from the vehicles and tending to their injuries. In the top photo, EMS personnel carefully maneuver one victim onto a backboard in preparation for transport. In the middle three photos, fire department volunteers (from the top): use an axe to detach the bottom of the car windshield after cutting the side supports with the Jaws of Life (resting on car hood); prepare to slip a backboard behind the injured driver for removal from the vehicle; finally carry the victim to a waiting ambulance.
